WHAT DOES HOLISTIC MEAN AND WHY IS IS RELEVANT TO MONEY?
Holistic Health, Holistic Money, Holistic Approach...Holistic is a word that is banded about liberally these days. But what does it really mean and why is it relevant to our finances?
It comes from the Greek word holos meaning all, whole, entire, total.
It is the idea that natural systems and their properties should be viewed as wholes, not as collections of parts. It means that the parts of something are so intimately interconnected with each other that you can only understand them by referring back to the whole and their role within the whole. If you only look at the individual parts or the sum of the parts you will miss the bigger picture.
An example of this is holistic healthcare which focuses on the health of the entire body and mind and not just parts of the body. It means caring for the total you! Having total wellness in your mind, body and spirit. Your mind, body and spirit all work together to bring you optimum health.
Many women know what it is like to feel very low or even depressed and we know that when we feel this way our energy levels are also very low and we feel very lethargic.
Because our mind, body (both physical and emotional) and spirit are so interconnected then looking at health holistically means that the cause of a pain or dis-ease may not be physical. For example, if you have an acute pain you will have physical symptoms but the root cause may be an emotional, mental or spiritual imbalance.
Holistic healing therefore works on identifying any imbalances in your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual systems and restoring them to a balanced state. The definition of holistic health is simple and inclusive. It is your overall state of wellness on all levels of your being: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. It covers the health of your entire being and extends to your resources, environment and relationships.
In reality, your body, mind and spirit are completely intertwined and cannot be separated. They are aspects of the whole, not two separate entities. To affect one level, either positively or negatively, influences your entire being.
SO WHERE DOES MONEY FIT INTO THIS PICTURE?
At Pink Investments we believe that money is one element of the whole – it cannot be separated out from other things like; how we feel, our beliefs around money, how we feel about ourselves, whether we think we deserve to have more wealth, our families beliefs around money etc.
The physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects we’ve referred to above apply to money.
How often have you or someone you know had any of the following reactions to money?
• You need to talk to someone about a money issue and your mouth goes dry, you clam up, you get a headache, you can’t wait to get started, your heart rate increases, you’d rather do anything else than this! These are all physical reactions. They affect your physical body
• You need to talk to someone about a money issue and you wonder what they’ll think about you when you do. Will they think I’m being mean, greedy, pedantic, ungenerous, over-generous. These are all mental reactions. They affect your mental body
• You need to face or discuss a financial issue and you feel anxious, or embarrassed or ashamed or nervous or frightened or totally joyous and excited. These are all emotional reactions. They affect your emotional body.
• You need to face or discuss a financial issue and you question where it fits with your beliefs. Do you see money as purely a form of energy that needs to flow or as the root of all evil. Do you see having financial wealth and leading a spiritual life as compatible? These are all spiritual reactions. They affect your spiritual body.
Financial websites usually describe money matters in a dry, matter of fact way - perhaps a very masculine or yang way.
Here at Pink Investments we offer all our information in a straightforward way so that if you simply need to look up something on a particular financial topic then you can do that by going to that section of the website.
And in addition to that we also offer women the opportunity to look at money and their relationship with money in a more holistic way because it is often here that there is a “block” in reaching their goal. Maybe there’s a block in their belief system or in their self-confidence or in believing that they can achieve their financial goals and we want to help women get to the root cause of whatever help they need to empower themselves in their ability to successfully manage their own finances and to teach their daughters and sisters and friends to do the same.
As women we are dynamic and complex people and every woman’s situation and journey with money will be unique to her. Our aim is to not only recognise this but to cover finance and money in a wide enough and feminine way so that we can provide something for every woman out there who wants to learn more about herself and her relationship with money and her ability to empower herself further within the financial field.
